Japan 🇯🇵

TOKYO

After four months in Australia, Tokyo was a cold but refreshing change! Diverse districts offered an endless supply of activities and landmarks. Multi-story aracdes stood tall in Taito & Chiyoda whilst the leafy scenery of Ueno Park lay in Taito.

Tokyo's culinary experience was first class

Sapporo

I caught a flight from Tokyo to Hokkaido, the Northern Island in Japan, and spent a few days in Sapporo to experience the annual snow festival ❄️. Chainsaws echoed around the streets as artists were busy showcasing their incredible snow and ice sculpting ability. I also found time to tour the Sapporo brewery where the bar tender insisted I have a few drinks 🍻

Niseko An'Nupuri

I spent seven days snowboarding in Niseko and Grand Hirafu. Niseko is one of the most famous resorts in Japan, renowned for its light powder and tree littered backcountry. I was lucky enough to befriend a group of Americans and Canadians who took me under their wing as we navigated the incredible terrain.

Wearing a basketball jersey over my jacket I quickly became the group safety cone acting as an easy identifer for those who had become separated from our group.

Kyoto

All snowed out, I flew South to Kyoto which offered a relaxing atmosphere boasting more traditional Japanese architecture. The bamboo garden and Kinkaku-ji temple were the standout attractions that I would highly recommend.

A special mention must go to Kojingamine (Tanakasha Shinseki). Climbing the steps of this magnificent shrine to watch the snow settle on the red gates was magical.
